MEMORIAL DAY MESSAGE TO THE 12TH CAV FAMILY

On Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember our comrades who made the supreme sacrifice defending our freedom and their fellow troopers. We all know that that there, except for the Grace of God, go us.
This year commemorates the 70th Anniversary of the end of WWII and the 50th of our Vietnam war. When I think back on my Nam days with the 12th Cav, I remember the day when a young trooper was hit when his vehicle ran over an old mine on LZ Grant. He looked up at me and asked, "Why me, Colonel?". My answer was "I don't know son, but we will get MEDEVAC to get you to the best medical help we can give". This was the best response I could think of at the time; wish I could have come up with some more profound. I still have vivid memories of this incident and I am sure all of you can recall a similar happening. We will never forget who gave all so that we could move on.
Let's all saddle up and head to the Reunion at Ft. Hood on 10-14 June. We plan a 12th CAV REGIMENTAL DAY on 11 June with the active troopers of the 1/12 and 2/12. Plan to bring along some donations of CAV memorabilia for CSM Graves of the 1/12 to put in his 12th CAV History Room. NO Claymores or ammo, please.
I plan to be there; don't be AWOL.

GOD BLESS AND TAKE CARE
PROUD TO BE A 12TH CAVALRY TROOPER
JIM DINGEMAN,
HONORARY COLONEL OF THE 12TH CAVALRY REGIMENT
